I haven't played in California in many moons, but

I haven't played in California in many moons, but @cornerstoneberkeley welcomed me back with open arms on Wednesday. From there, we drove to @hawthornetheatrepdx and performed to a lovely crowd last night. Besides finding some bomb sushi and pho, we stayed at the cutest air bnb (where we also played the Hygge game like night owls. Hoot hoot! 🦉)
We got to reconnect with friends (and they take the best photos.) Was also v stoked to join @bryceavary onstage for a little fiddle diddle. I also busted out my @openfabpdx (why I didn't invite him to the show is beyond me tbh.)

The first show always feels like the biggest hurdle - and we went into it with no rehearsal and a v short soundcheck )and that was all after a last-minute venue change!) Luckily, I really, really love all these songs and have been singing many of them since I was 17. 🤠

Euro tour day 2: After finding the elusive hagelslag right before hitting the Belgian border, I finally got to say tot ziens the right way. We got into Paris but I didn't have the ability to take any pictures until I got out of the car coffin. ⚰️
We played at @lesdisquaires.club and ate at Champs de Mars bistro where I successfully tested out some French. We then made a stop at the only monument we had time to see: @toureiffelofficielle - but what a sight it was to behold. Apparently it sparkles on the hour?! I can't wait to come back to Paris to visit the city correctly. Next stop is Berlin after an all-too-short rest in Porta Westfalica.

It's always bittersweet ending a vacation, but Amsterdam was a whirlwind of art, history & a sprinkle or two. Before the tour started, I did some shopping (more on that later!) and wandered the streets alone for a day before the band got into town.

Euro tour day 1: On Saturday, we played an intimate at @parlouramsterdam.love and then got a very cute tour from our Air bnb host, because the Dutch are truly that generous (he also gave us a ride to/from the show 💕) The next morning, we set off for Paris.

Day 5 was like stepping into a fairytale. We start

Day 5 was like stepping into a fairytale. We started the day at @zaanseschansholland which is a traditional village built around windmills. Though it was early, it was absolutely worth it since it got very crowded as time passed. Many of the buildings were green which is my favourite colour, too! We got to watch demonstrations of clog and cheese making, as well as tour a working windmill (that actively still makes paint pigments.) 🎨

Afterwards, we drove quite a ways to the literal fairytale of @giethoorn_nl where they do not allow cars inside the village. So when people buy groceries, they sometimes have to carry them up to 400m! We went on a boat tour and got to eat some traditional Dutch bitteballen. It was beautiful to stroll through such a unique town after the hustle and bustle of the city. It is probably one of the most idyllic places I'll ever visit. It was like a real-life Shire!

Day 4 started with a later afternoon (we needed to sleep in!) and a visit to the @paleisamsterdam - I never even knew that there was Dutch royalty! After that, we walked around the city and visited @depoezenboot.amsterdam which is a cat shelter on a house boat. Got dinner at the Waag which is a castle where they used to do public executions. Kind of insane to hear about the history of such an old city! We also did a private canal tour since the first one was filled with screeching tourists which had really killed the vibe... But it was nice to get a redo.

Day 3 of Amsterdam: Headed to the @royaldelft_offi

Day 3 of Amsterdam: Headed to the @royaldelft_official museum which was about a 45 minute train ride through the countryside. I got to learn about the craft and actually watched some of the artisans actively work on pieces. Afterwards, we had brunch at @kekdelft and got to see a Dock Dog!

Once back in Amsterdam, we went to @amsterdamtulipmuseum and @cheesemuseumamsterdam since they were right next to each other. The fact that the Dutch love cheese is primo! That evening, walked around the @redlightdistrictamsterdam and snapped a few non-offensive pictures of this culture-shock-laden area.

I've been so behind posting because my service is iffy despite getting a Euro SIM card. Besides not being able to get water at many restaurants (???), many places also don't have wifi. But thanks for following along on my Dutch vacation (and for helping me hit 16k today. 💕)

Day 2 of Amsterdam: started off the day at the @rijksmuseum which we probably should've budgeted way more time for... Because it's absolutely huge. Saw quite a number of antique instruments, Mahler's handwritten notes on Symphony no.7, and even the smallest harpsichord that still exists (on top of the restoration of Rembrandt's "The Night Watch" and a Delft ceramic violin.) Afterwards went to @locals.amsterdam for brunch before heading to the @heinekenexperience and its boat counterpart that evening.

Amsterdam Day 1: Felt somewhat jetlagged but manag

Amsterdam Day 1: Felt somewhat jetlagged but managed to still visit the @vangoghmuseum (& watched the Dr. Who episode that night 💔), as well as explore the Museumplein and walk around the city. It's always a good sign spotting a cat on the first day. Had lahmacun (Turkish pizza) for lunch and pistachio burrata pasta for dinner. I also forgot to download the final @whatismae cover before leaving, so it will have to wait until I'm back in Toronto for a very short stop-over before tour. Sorry guys! Hopefully pics of my adventures will make up for it.

Oopsie poopsies... I missed posting yesterday because I had a crazy day getting ready to fly to Amsterdam today, as well as a four hour corporate gig last night. But day 7 of #8daysofmae is coming to you with "A Race for Our Autonomy" from the latest self-titled album of @whatismae . Though the lyrics of this song are painful, there is also "a hope where none should be" which is a beautiful reference to how I feel about my career as a musician. And each day that I get to do this full time, I'm grateful. I hope you've been enjoying these covers even if this one was a bit late.

Day two of #8DaysOfMAE is "Ready and Waiting to Fall" from The Everglow, one of the greatest concept albums of all time. I chose this track because it sounds happy and deviates from my doom and gloom nature (I usually always enjoy sad sounding songs the most - but this one just hits different.) There are a few layers of violin, but I didn't want everything to feel too visually crowded. If you look closely, you'll see clouds and stars on my dress; this song always felt like falling through the sky, much like how it feels when you're falling in love. 💕
